Safety training targets both hazards in the home and in the community. The individual will be prompted, educated, and trained in various ways to identify, locate, and correct the safety hazards. This includes but is not limited to educating the client on potential hazards in the home, reporting hazards to the appropriate parties, hazards associated with blocking of emergency exit paths, testing fire alarms and formulating evacuation plans. Safety instruction may also focus on dangers associated with going out late at night or interacting with strangers in the community. Training and support will target the specific needs of the consumer and his/her personal preferences.
